Who Are We?

Dave Nicolson We are employees of Catalyst Paper, Crofton Division and friends of Dave Nicholson. Dave was a much valued friend and employee, who passed away in October of 2000 after a courageous fight with cancer. Dave instilled and possessed many positive values in people that he met and worked with. One of Dave’s favorite past times was indeed fishing.

We couldn’t think of a better way to pay tribute to a great man and to raise funds for those who need assistance in trying times, than to hold an annual fishing derby. Last year alone with your help we were able to raise over $21,000 which was sent out to: the Cowichan Valley Food Basket Society, Chemainus Harvest House, the Lake Cowichan Community Services (Soup Kitchen), Lake Cowichan Food Bank, Cowichan Food Connection (Bread Bus), the CIBC Run for the Cure, Victoria and Cowichan General Hospital’s Neo-Natal Care Units, Cowichan Valley Search and Rescue, the Cowichan Lake Salmonid Enhancement Society, the San Juan Enhancement Society, Victoria’s Pink Salmon Foundation, and 6 families in the Cowichan Valley area who are were facing difficult financial times through loss of a loved one or serious illness.

We continue to grow each year and extend a warm welcome to people of all ages who wish to attend our event and join the Davey Derby Fishing Club.

This event features a fantastic prize table that would not be possible without the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors, so please check them out and consider them for any of your future needs.
